Continuing Education Requirements

Journeyman, Administrator, and Master Electricians

Every three-year renewal cycle, journeyman, administrator, and master electricians (of all specialties) must complete 24 hours of continuing education in the following categories:

  • 8 hours National Electrical Code changes (Category 1)
  • 4 hours Revised Code of Washington (RCW) and Washington Administrative Codes (WAC) (Category 2)
  • 12 hours industry-related (Category 3)

Electrical Trainees

Each two-year renewal cycle, electrical trainees must complete 32 hours of Basic Classroom Training (no specific courses or categories are required).

Plumbers

Every two-year renewal cycle, journeyman and residential plumbers must complete 16 hours of continuing education in the following categories:

  • 8 hours of currently adopted plumbing code (Category 1)
  • 4 hours of Industry-Related Electrical (Category 2)
  • 4 additional hours of Industry-Related Plumbing (IRP), Industry-Related Electrical (IRE), or Code (Category 3)

Plumber Trainees

Every year, plumber trainees must complete 8 hours of continuing education one of the following categories (required categories will alternate from one year to the next).

  • Category 1 = Plumbing Code, 8 hours
    or
  • Category 2 = Industry-Related Electrical, 4 hours
  • Category 3 = Industry Related, 4 hours
